If you can stomach going across the other side of the world to Australia with kids in tow, then check out this recommendation of a family friendly resort in Lorne, Victoria off the Great Ocean Road near Melbourne, Australia.  This resort is called the Cumberland Lorne Resort, and it was a total hit with our family.

The Great Ocean Road is a must for anyone venturing out to Melbourne, Australia. We packed our littlest into the back of our rented car and had a magical time driving down the Great Ocean Road with it’s dramatic cliff scenery and surf-tastic beaches:

The Great Ocean Road is most well known for the majestic limestone stacks called The Twelve Apostles (more on this later). Lorne is a quant town on the Great Ocean Road, a surfer’s paradise and a haven to relax en route to the Twelve Apostles. The Cumberland Lorne Resort where we stayed is an absolute gem of a resort.  The resort offers one, two and three bedroom beachside apartments with fully equipped kitchens and balconies. We opted for the Rennie Ellis two bed apartment. It can sleep 2 adults and up to 4 children, with a queen sized bed in the main room, two single beds in the second room and a sofa bed in the living room. Their prices vary depending on the time of year and the type of apartment guests are wanting to book. The lowest prices they offer in the off season is $177 AUD per night for a one bedroom garden view apartment and during their peak season the most expensive is the three bedroom penthouse at the rate of $670 AUD per night.

Lorne beach is expansive and offers a relatively unspoilt expanse of beach to enjoy during your stay.

But the real reason to go all the way to the other side of the world and stay at this resort, is what you can find a few miles down the Great Ocean Road at the Twelve Apostles:

The Twelve Apostles are a collection of limestone stacks off Port Campbell National Park. Caused by erosion, they are breathtaking in size and number, and due to the continuing nature of erosion, destined to continue to be shaped for years to come.

Definitely one to add to the list of places to go with kids if you can!
