“We stayed at Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora in Tenerife, an enormous and superb 5 star hotel in October half term this year.

The entrance is quite spectacular overlooking the central plaza of the hotel and ocean in the background.

To accommodate a family of 5, we had to book a 2 bedroom suite which was actually one suite with an interconnecting door to a double room. It was quite spacious and enjoyed 2 bathrooms plus 2 balconies, but felt a little bit disjointed.

The resort is massive, which I quite liked as it gave us some degree of anonymity and a wide selections of restaurants. There were 9 restaurants in total, including a tapas, teppanyaki, Italian and fish restaurant, and the food at all of them was amazing. The main buffet had a large selection of international cuisine but was very busy and if you weren’t sitting outside, it felt a bit canteen-like.

There was a family pool, an adults only pool, a huge infinity pool and a superb shallow pool which housed a large play pirate ship and slide, which our children loved. It was pretty easy to watch them play on it safely.

The hotel has a kids club, but it was quite young and my kids were not keen on the cooking and craft activities. However, there was lots of non-kids club activities to partake in, including tennis, paddle tennis, football, boules and even yoga.

The evenings also had a wide range of activities for our children. There were two bouncy castles housed in one of the large side rooms with face painting, dancing, a rodeo bull, and movies most nights. Again, it was quite easy to watch the children be entertained whilst we were able to relax and watch them.

We paid for the extra red level service which gave us additional benefits including:

  • access to a family lounge with complimentary drinks and snacks
  • separate kids club
  • access to separate sunbathing areas
  • priority bookings for restaurants and activities
  • discounts on some hotel services

I recommend Gran Melia to anyone who would like a holiday in a large, well thought out  and elegant resort with many amenities to keep both adults and children entertained.”

Thank you Richard for this very informative and honest review. Looks like you guys had a lot of fun! x
